The KAUST Discovery Scholarship is a general scholarship program King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). This program is designed to ensure that any very talented students who had reason and the right to enroll in a KAUST will receive full financial support, while at university. Those who receive scholarships Discovery receive the full support of learning, living stipend, a summer enrichment programs and career.

KAUST will offer Discovery Scholarships to all KAUST students – an exceptional level of support intended to attract gifted and talented students from Saudi Arabia and from other countries around the world.

KAUST will offer a pre-enrollment version of this general scholarship program to students attending first-university or bachelor’s degree programs. KAUST will provide financial support to pre-enrollment Discovery Scholarship recipients at their home institutions prior to the University’s opening. Upon graduation, these students will enter KAUST as master’s degree students in September 2009 and 2010 to complete their graduate studies on a fully funded scholarship.

Recipients of the KAUST Discovery Scholarship represent future leaders in science, engineering and technology.

Students may apply for a KAUST Discovery Scholarship directly, or they may be nominated by a professor at their institution.

Scholarship Benefits

* For the remainder of your first university or bachelor’s degree program of study, you will receive:
o Full tuition to complete your first university or bachelor’s degree at your current institution
o A living stipend based on your current city and country of residence
o An allowance to purchase text books
o An allowance to purchase a laptop.
o All economy class travel costs associated with your participation in KAUST-sponsored enrichment activities throughout the remainder of your first university or bachelor’s degree program. In particular, travel associated with the following activities:
+ Scholarship award ceremony event
+ Global workshop at the KAUST campus in Saudi Arabia
+ Regional leadership workshop
* Upon the completion of your first university or bachelor’s degree program, you will receive:
o Admission into a master’s degree program upon meeting the program’s admission requirements at the KAUST campus in Saudi Arabia.
o A full scholarship at KAUST, including tuition, housing and travel costs

Eligibility

All applicants must demonstrate proven leadership in research and academic involvement. At a minimum, you must have the following academic qualifications:

* Official university record documenting academic achievement at the highest level
* Current enrollment in a first university degree (bachelor’s) program in a KAUST-related field of study
* 550 TOEFL PBT or 213 TOEFL CBT, 79-80 iBT, or 6.0 on the IELTS for non-native English speakers
* Proven research interest and/or leadership potential
* Ability to enter a master’s program at KAUST in September 2009 or after
* A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum major-field-of-study GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent
* 80 credit hours completed, or equivalent by the end of 2008
* Ability to take graduate courses in English

Requirements of the Discovery Scholarship

* Agreement to matriculate at KAUST following completion of your first university degree (bachelor’s).
* Participation in KAUST-sponsored enrichment activities that include an award ceremony, a workshop in home region, and a conference in Saudi Arabia
* Obtaining necessary documents for travel outside of the your home country (KAUST will assist with travel documents for entrance into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia)
* Maintenance of the highest academic standards and results at your current university through graduation
* Return of the signed copy of the KAUST Discovery Scholarship Terms and Conditions upon acceptance
* Copies of the first three (3) pages of your international travel documents, which should include your photograph, birth date, location of birth, and expiration date of your travel documents

MAU jajan murah dengan sistem ambil barang, bayar dan ambil uang kembalian sendiri? Datang saja ke Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK).

Sejak hari Senin (12/5) ini, KPK membuka Warung Kejujuran di kantornya, Jakarta. Warung ini diresmikan oleh Wakil Ketua KPK bidang Pencegahan M Yassin. “Silakan ambil barangnya, di situ sudah ada harganya.Uang di taruh di tempat situ (tempat uang) dan kalau ada kembalian, silakan ambil kembalian sendiri-sendiri, ” ujar Yassin.

Warung Kejujuran milik KPK, berbentuk dua rak dan satu kulkas yang ditempatkan di lantai satu KPK. Persisnya di lorong antara ruang Humas dan Pengaduan Masyarakat. Begitu mahal kejujuran di negeri ini sampai-sampai KPK keidean membuat warung kejujuran. Tidak salah memang. Kita harus jujur melihat diri sendiri. Di jaman ketika semua hal menjadi begitu pragmatis dan materialis, kejujuran tiba-tiba menjadi benda langka yang untuk menemukannya perlu sebuat alat canggih tertentu yaitu ‘WARUNG KEJUJURAN’.

Jadi, sudah jujurkah kita seandainya tanpa WARUNG KEJUJURAN versi KPK sekalipun?**

Di abad pertengahan dulu, Islam menjadi kekuatan ilmu pengetahuan dunia. Kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan Islam dalam sekejap mencerahkan dunia (khususnya Eropa) yang saat itu begitu tergelapkan oleh tradisi nenek moyang, kebuntuan pemikiran, hingga kualitas hidup yang rendah.

Tradisi Islam adalah tradisi intelektual. Penghayatan terhadap nilai-nilai Islam merupakan implementasi dari makna. Bukan sekedar ritual rutin untuk menyelamatkan diri dari neraka.

Lahirnya ilmuwan-ilmuwan muslim yang berhasil meletakan berbagai dasar ilmu pengetahuan seperti ibnu Sina, al Farabi, al Khawarizmi, al Kindi, dan lain-lain, diakui atau tidak, telah meletakan dasar-dasar ilmu pengetahuan dunia. Tanpa mereka penelitian-penelitian ilmu pengetahuan modern harus dimulai dari nol dan ini membutuhkan banyak energi dan waktu.

Kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan Islam dapat ditemukan jejaknya diberbagai negara Eropa, Afrika, dan Timur Tengah dalam bentuk situ-situs kota tua, arsitektur, naskah kuno, hingga perangkat-perangkat ilmu pengetahuan yang digunakan saat itu. Namun, kemana hilangnya mutiara ilmu pengetahuan Islam saat ini?

Jeddah; para ilmuwan, peneliti Muslim, investor, dan penguasaha akan berkumpul di Madinah, Arab Saudi, 22 – 24 Juni 2008. Pertemuan itu ditujukan untuk mencarai cara mengulang kejawaan Islam pada abad pertengahan dulu.

Pertemuan ini digagas oleh otoritas investasi umum di Saudi Arabia (SAGIA). Forum pertemuan ini diberi nama Noor atau cahaya. Topik utama yang dibahas adalah teknologi informasi dan kesehatan di dunia Islam.

Ini kabar gembira dari Saudi Arabia. Ummat Islam tentu berharap forum ini menjadi titik awal kebangkitan ilmu pengetahuan Islam.

Optimis?

Entalah….

Dunia Islam telah begitu tertinggal. Pendidikannya tidak membanggakan. Penemuannya tidak berarti. Ilmuwannya tidak lebih dari mahasiswa biasa. Politiknya jauh dari moral dan nilai-nilai Islam itu sendiri. Bisakah ummat Islam meraih kemajuan?

Forum Noor diharapkan tidak bernasib seperti Oki atau Opec. Dua organisasi dari sekumpulan negara-negara Islam dengan kekuatan besar tetapi nol aksinya. Oki dan Opec meski memiliki berbagai potensi untuk mengubah dunia dengan kekuatannya namun sampai hari ini tidak lebih baik dari macan tua ompong yang telah kekenyangan. Lambat. Bodoh. Dan tidak berguna.

Forum Noor harus benar-benar mencerahkan dunia dan membangkitkan cahaya Islam. Bisakah?

De Montfort University is committed to supporting international students to benefit from study in the United Kingdom. For courses starting in September 2008, De Montfort University’s Vice-Chancellor is pleased to offer scholarships to 2,000 pounds each.

The scholarships are for 2000 pounds equivalent to a reduction of approximately 20% of the total fees, and will be paid for the entire cost of tuition for foreign students, the status of any country in the World who wish to study at one of the following types of courses at the De Montfort University, Leicester:

1. Full-time undergraduate (BA / BSc) in any of the object
2. Full-time post-Diplomas and Masters courses (PGDip / MA / MSc / MBA / LLM) in any discipline
3. Full-time MPhil / PhD research degrees in any subject

Scholarships are available for courses beginning in September 2008 only (ie between September 2008 and June 2009 for MPhil / PhD research degrees).

The award of £ 2000 will be a one-off payment and will be deducted from the full cost of tuition at the beginning of the first (or only) grade.

Students move through DMU of one of our systems or progression established collaborative partnerships can also apply for these grants, if they wish.

Only the status of foreign students are eligible.

We will award up to 16 x £ 2000 scholarships for courses above from September 2008. There will be a limited number of scholarships offered by the faculty:

* Faculty of Art and Design: up to 3 scholarships
* Faculty of Business and Law: up to 3 scholarships
* Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering: up to 5 scholarships
* Faculty of Health and Life Sciences: up to 2 scholarships
* Faculty of Humanities: up to 3 scholarships

Keep in mind that some of our courses are not included in this scholarship. To confirm whether your choice is, of course, included in the scheme, please contact reception at the Faculty of those teams that you are applying directly.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the submission of a 500 word essay, which will be written by the applicant and evaluated DMU group representatives (each faculty will have his own team).

Distribution Process
After a period of August 1, 2008 a team from the DMU (one panel at the Department) will evaluate all sit essay submissions. In 2000 pounds scholarships will be deducted from the total tuition fee of successful applicants, when you arrive for training at DMU. Application Rule

* Overseas-only status of the students can apply for scholarships.
* Both self-funded and sponsored students have the right to apply for participation.
* No cash alternatives will be offered scholarships and can not be transferred to any other time, the DMU, or other designated recipient.
* Only in September 2008, entry (or between September 2008 and June 2009, for research applicants) - scholarships, could not be deferred to a statement in September 2009 or later.
* For foreign students, who are also entitled to a 5% discount for early payment of their assessed contributions in full to students, in 2000 to £ Scholarship will be deducted from the first full fee, a 5% discount from the fee reduction.
* These scholarships will not be awarded in conjunction with any other awards, such as scholarships for graduates of 2008 - students can only receive a stipend DMU, usually a greater cost.
* If an applicant is available scholarships, and then withdraw their application, or not enrolled in a course, for any reason, loss of scholarships.
* The University reserves the right to withdraw fellowship, or not to provide scholarships, at any time before they are distributed.

Selain itu, pemerintah juga akan memperbaiki sistem remunerasi yang mencakup seluruh komponen kesejahteraan pegawai, termasuk gaji, tunjangan, fasilitas perumahan, dan asuransi pada tahun 2009.

Wah, wah, pasti bakal semakin meningkat nih peminat PNS. Seperti kita tahu, semenjak krisis ekonomi yang tak kunjung akhir dan semakin sulitnya mencari lapangan kerja, PNS menjadi mimpi masyarakat kita. Tidak salah sih bercita-cita menjadi PNS. Yang salah adalah ketika kita menggantung seluruh harapan hidup kita pada PNS. Seperti adagium dalam berinvestasi, ‘jangan pernah menyimpan telurmu dalam satu keranjang’. Artinya juga, jangan menyimpan cita-citamu dalam satu keranjang karena kalau keranjanganya jatuh, habislah semua cita-cita kita, eh… telur kita. Eh, sama aja ding.

City University London - School of Informatics. The School of Informatics offers a number of scholarships of £2,000 for both home and overseas well-qualified postgraduate students on the following one year full-time master’s courses:

Geographic Information Systems, Information Systems & Technology, Business Systems Analysis & Design, Information Science, Data Mining, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, e-Business Systems, Information Systems, Electronic Publishing, Pharmaceutical Information Management, Human-centred Systems, Information Management, Library and Information Studies, Geographic Information Management, Information Management in the Cultural Sector, Health Informatics, and Healthcare Technologies.

Scholarships will be offered to both home and overseas well-qualified applicants wishing to take up a place on any of the above courses in September 2008. The scholarships, each valued at £2,000, are intended to assist students to pay the fees for their chosen course of study. They will be awarded on a competitive basis to the most promising applicants.

How to apply

Complete an application form for your chosen programme of study, attaching a letter stating that you also wish to be considered for an Informatics Scholarship. Exceptionally well qualified applicants will be offered a scholarship at the time we make an offer of a place on the programme.

Deadlines for application

We will consider applications at three points in the year. If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, please make sure we receive your COMPLETE application form (ie complete references, transcripts etc) and letter by one of these dates.

Terms and conditions

1. Scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the Course Director. Course Directors may require applicants to submit an assignment or an essay, for example, as part of the selection process.
2. Scholarships are only available to students paying the full fee on one of the participating courses.
3. The scholarship is intended to assist the student meet the cost of the fee payable in respect of the course and will be deducted from the fees charged to the student or the student’s sponsor.
4. The scholarship will not be recorded on the degree certificate from the University. However, references for students who have successfully completed the course may refer to the scholarship.
5. Applicants may only apply for a scholarship once, but if a deadline is missed it will automatically be considered for the next round.

2 Mei lalu kita memperingati Hari Pendidikan Nasional. 2 Mei dicuplik dari hari kelahiran tokoh pendidikan Indonesia yaitu Ki Hadjar Dewantara. Sebenarnya kalau kita bicara pendidikan, Ki Hadjar bukanlah orang pertama yang mempelopori pendidikan karena seperti kita tahu, sudah sejak lama - bahkah sebelum Ki Hadjar lahir - tokoh masyarakat yang mumpuni ilmu keislamannya membentuk komunitas-komunitas pendidikan di desa atau kampung yang kita kenal dengan pesantren dan saat ini banyak yang masih eksis.

Namun harus diakui juga bahwa Ki Hadjar telah memberikan terobosan fenomenal dalam konsep pendidikan untuk rakyat Indonesia yang saat itu terbelah antara pendidikan Belanda yang condong pada sekuler dan hal-hal yang berbau kebendaan dengan pesantren yang hanya belajar ‘ilmu langit’ sampai lupa dengan kondisi riil di dunia.

Ok. Di bawah ini adalah sebuah buku yang cukup unik dan langka yang merupakan kumpulan dari pemikiran Ki Hadjar Dewantara. Judul Bukunya pendidikan I. Sampai sekarang buku ini belum dicetak ulang. Penulis sudah keliling dibeberapa sentra buku bekas seperti Surabaya, Bandung, Jakarta, dan Jogja. Buku ini ternyata tidak ditemukan. Dulu pernah dapat waktu World Book Day I di Senayan dan dibeli oleh teman (tapi belum bayar sampai sekarang ) seharga 125ribu. Fuiiihhh….. terlalu murah ternyata.

Anggota Fraksi Partai Demokrat DPR Ahmad Fauzi mengusulkan agar KPK dibubarkan.

Pak Ahmad Fauzi ini jangan-jangan ketakutan sama KPK. Apa alasannya KPK harus dibubarkan? Bukannya gebrakan KPK saat ini lumayan manjur untuk memberantas Korupsi. Kalau KPK dibubarkan, yang paling enak koruptor dong. Iya gak? Nah, ketahuan deh. Pak Fauzi jangan-jangan menyuarakan aspirasi koruptor. Hayo, ngaku aja… jangan malu-malu Pak Fauzi. Omongannya didengar orang se Indonesia lho….
Seperti yang sering diberitakan di media massa, kita semua melihat bagaimana oknum polisi dan jaksa terlibat diberbagai tindak korupsi dan kejahatan. Lha, kalau KPK dibubarkan, berarti urusan bersih-bersih koruptor pasti jatuh ke kejaksaan dan polisi. Wah, bisa berabe nih. Bukan apa-apa, sebelum ada KPK dua institusi ini kan yang beraksi memberantas korupsi dan hasilnya? Dijamin dan terbukti, gagal!!
Pernyataan anggota Fraksi Partai Demokrat DPR Ahmad Fauzi ini membuktikan satu hal, semakin sulit buat kita, rakyat Indonesia, menemukan pejabat yang punya akal sehat. Coba saja lihat. Di saat sebuah institusi menunjukan prestasi kerja yang bagus hingga mampu memperbaiki posisi Indonesia di mata Internasional, eh….. anggota dewannya malah mengusulkan pembubaran. hehehe…… Kacau deh…
Kalau mau ngomongin pembubaran seharusnya kan institusi dengan prestasi kerja buruk yang dibubarin seperti DPR. Bukan sebaliknya yang berprestasi oke malah dibubarin.
Pak Ahmad Fauzi yang terhormat, lain kali kalau mau ngomong mikirnya yang agak lamaan dikit ya Pak. Kalau perlu buka buku dulu seperti buku PKN (buku pelajaran SD), pendidikan karakter, atau Next Generationnya Mizan. Daripada bikin malu orang se Indonesia.
